Product details

Product Format

Product Name & Strength: Mobitin Syrup, Chlorphenamine Maleate 2 mg/5 mL, 60 mL bottle.

Indications (Approved Uses): Indicated for the symptomatic control of all allergic conditions responsive to antihistamines, including hay fever, vasomotor rhinitis, urticaria, angioneurotic oedema, food allergy, drug and serum reactions, and insect bites. It is also officially approved to provide symptomatic relief from the itch associated with chickenpox.

Contraindications (Safety Warnings): Contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to antihistamines or any of the syrup's ingredients. It is strictly contraindicated in patients who have been treated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) within the last 14 days, as the anticholinergic properties of the drug are intensified. Caution is advised in patients with epilepsy, raised intra-ocular pressure (including glaucoma), prostatic hypertrophy, severe hypertension, cardiovascular disease, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthma, and hepatic or renal impairment. It should be avoided in elderly patients suffering from confusion. The medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, and psychomotor impairment, which can seriously affect the ability to drive or use machinery. Concurrent use of alcohol, anxiolytics, hypnotics, and other antihistamine-containing products must be strictly avoided. The syrup contains 6.3% v/v ethanol, making it harmful to individuals suffering from alcoholism, and extreme care must be taken in pregnant and breastfeeding women, children, and high-risk groups. It contains sucrose, which must be considered in patients with diabetes mellitus, rare hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency. It inhibits phenytoin metabolism, which can lead to phenytoin toxicity. It is not to be used during pregnancy or lactation unless considered absolutely essential by a physician.

Side Effects (Adverse Reactions): Sedation and somnolence are very common. Common adverse reactions include a disturbance in attention, abnormal coordination, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, nausea, a dry mouth, and fatigue. Children and the elderly are more susceptible to neurological anticholinergic effects and paradoxical excitation, such as increased energy, restlessness, and nervousness. Other known side effects, though less common or of unknown frequency, include vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, allergic reactions (including angioedema and anaphylaxis), anorexia, blood dyscrasias, muscle twitching, depression, urinary retention, exfoliative dermatitis, rash, urticaria, hypotension, hepatitis, tinnitus, and palpitations.

Nutritional Information (per 5 mL): Chlorphenamine Maleate 2 mg, Granulated Sugar, Sodium Benzoate, Methyl Hydroxybenzoate, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Sodium CMC, Caramel, Sweet Orange Flavour, Purified Water.

Instructions for Use / Dosage: For oral/topical administration. For oral administration only. Adults and children 12 years and over should take 10 mL (4 mg) every 4 to 6 hours, with a maximum daily dose of 60 mL (24 mg).
