Indications (Approved Uses): Indicated for the symptomatic control and rapid management of acute non-specific diarrhoea. It may also be utilised to reduce the volume of discharge from ileostomies and for the acute management of diarrhoea episodes associated with irritable bowel syndrome in adults.

Contraindications (Safety Warnings): Should not be used by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to loperamide, or in conditions where the inhibition of peristalsis must be avoided to prevent severe complications such as paralytic ileus or toxic megacolon. It is absolutely contraindicated in patients presenting with acute dysentery (characterised by bloody faeces and a high fever), acute ulcerative colitis, bacterial enterocolitis caused by invasive organisms (such as Salmonella, Shigella, and Campylobacter), and pseudomembranous colitis associated with broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. Not generally recommended for children under 12 years of age without strict medical supervision.

Side Effects (Adverse Reactions): May cause constipation, flatulence, abdominal cramping, nausea, and dizziness. Less frequent adverse reactions include dry mouth, vomiting, headache, and in rare or overdose situations, paralytic ileus or central nervous system depression.

Active / Nutritional Information: This pharmacological preparation primarily contains the active synthetic anti-motility agent Loperamide Hydrochloride at a concentration of 2mg per capsule, formulated within a standard solid-dose excipient base designed to bind to opiate receptors in the gut wall, thereby inhibiting intestinal peristalsis and increasing the transit time of intestinal contents.

Instructions for Use / Dosage: For oral administration. For acute diarrhoea in adults, the standard initial dosage is two capsules (4mg) taken immediately, followed by one capsule (2mg) taken after each subsequent loose bowel movement. Do not exceed a maximum of eight capsules (16mg) within a 24-hour period. If clinical improvement is not observed within 48 hours, administration must be discontinued.
